Elk Poutine

Elk Poutine

In this edition we take you to late September when the boys were lookin’ to cash in on an elk tag. Not just any elk tag though- she was a highly coveted bull tag.

The first day came and went. Nothing but a sketchy wind and the sound of a satellite bull about one click from Camp right around daybreak. Day 2…cows. Day 3…more cows. Day 4…you guessed ‘er; cows again.

By Day 5, the boys thought they'd already be grippin' and grinnin', but for one reason or another, they just couldn't close the gap. Johnny went with his gut and hunted a pine stand overlooking a small bluff and a meadow prettier than Marilyn Monroe. Using the bed of needles underfoot, he was so quiet even he forgot he was walking. I guess you could say luck had turned for the worse when his Browning caught a limb and swung off his shoulder, hitting the ground and alerting the big 6x6 watching him, not 50 yards away.

George Jones couldn’t find a better story to sing about, and the incident knocked poor Johnny to his knees, wondering where it all went wrong. The next day would turn out to be better than the week prior; let’s just say those boys would dig deep and use some real woodsmanship to pull the slip on a dandy 5x5.

The rest is history, as they say, and no need to finish the story. If you wanna make the most of your story, we have the recipe for ya.
